WhatsApp, the popular messaging service, has recently rolled out a new feature that allows users to log in to their accounts using the biometric authentication mechanism on their smartphones. This feature, known as passkey, eliminates the need to remember or use a traditional password and offers a more secure login experience.
With the passkey feature, users can create a unique login credential on their device, which can be accessed securely through either facial recognition or fingerprint scanning. This biometric authentication adds an extra layer of security to users’ accounts, ensuring that only authorized individuals can access their personal information.

For most users, this would be the default password store managed by Google, with autofill support. It is currently unclear whether WhatsApp will also support storing passkeys in third-party password management apps, such as Bitwarden, 1Password, or Dashlane.
Availability and Future Rollout
The passkey feature is currently being rolled out to a limited number of beta testers on WhatsApp’s beta for Android 2.23.20.4. However, not all users who have updated to the latest beta release will have access to this feature. As more users test and provide feedback on the feature, it is expected to be made available to all smartphones on the stable channel in the future.
WhatsApp’s introduction of biometric authentication for login through the passkey feature offers a more secure and convenient way for users to access their accounts.
