The highly anticipated film, Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig, has finally been released worldwide for streaming as video-on-demand. Initially scheduled for digital release on September 5, the film’s release was delayed due to its monumental success at the global box office. Barbie can now be rented on various digital platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, BookMyShow Stream, Google Play Movies, and YouTube Movies. Additionally, Indian audiences can also look forward to the release of Meg 2: The Trench starring Jason Statham, which will be available on Prime Video starting September 18.

Barbie is now available for digital viewing on several platforms, offering the option to rent or purchase the film. Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, BookMyShow Stream, Google Play Movies, and YouTube Movies all provide the 4K Ultra-HD option with subtitles. However, it is worth noting that only the Apple TV version, priced at Rs. 790, includes Dolby Atmos audio. The film can also be rented on Apple TV for Rs. 490, while Google Play Movies and YouTube Movies offer a slightly higher rental price of Rs. 500. Alternatively, viewers can purchase the film in its entirety for Rs. 920, which allows unlimited access for repeated viewings. It is important to mention that English is the only available language dub across all platforms, similar to the theatrical release in India.

Barbie is also available on BookMyShow Stream for Rs. 799, with the option to rent it for Rs. 499. However, it should be noted that once playback is initiated, viewers have a mere two days to finish watching the film, although it will remain on their account for 30 days. Similarly, Amazon Prime Video follows the same ruleset but offers the additional options of SD and HD (1080p) versions separately, each priced at Rs. 499.

Barbie has exceeded all expectations, becoming the highest-grossing movie of the year, with box office earnings totaling $1.4 billion (approximately Rs. 11,608 crore). This extraordinary achievement has resulted in Barbie dethroning The Super Mario Bros. Movie from its top position. The film revolves around the story of the stereotypical Barbie doll, brought to life by Margot Robbie, who initially exists in her idyllic world of Barbie Land. However, as she gains sentience, she is confronted with an existential crisis and embarks on a journey to the real world, accompanied by Ken, played by Ryan Gosling. Throughout her adventure, she discovers the reality of patriarchy and the pressures young girls face as they transition from playing with dolls to navigating the complexities of society. Greta Gerwig’s directorial finesse propelled her into the prestigious billion-dollar club, making her the first-ever woman director to achieve this feat.

Riding on the wave of Barbienheimer, the internet-fueled event, Meg 2: The Trench has captivated audiences worldwide. The film was globally released on August 25, but Indian platforms were unable to feature it at that time. However, starting September 18, Meg 2: The Trench will be available to rent on Amazon Prime Video for Rs. 499, with the added advantage of offering multiple language options including English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. The plot revolves around rescue diver Jonas Taylor, portrayed by Jason Statham, as he faces off against a swarm of megalodon sharks that have broken free and are rapidly approaching the shorelines. Forced to abandon their original deep-sea mining mission, Jonas and his crew must now prioritize protecting civilians from the imminent danger posed by these gigantic sea creatures.

Barbie and Meg 2: The Trench have both garnered immense attention and praise from audiences worldwide. Barbie’s delayed digital release has only increased anticipation, leading to its success as the highest-grossing movie of the year. The film’s exploration of themes such as feminism, identity, and societal expectations has resonated with viewers of all ages. On the other hand, Meg 2: The Trench promises exhilarating action and excitement, allowing audiences to immerse themselves in a thrilling underwater adventure. With the availability of these films on various digital platforms, viewers can now enjoy the cinematic experience from the comfort of their own homes. Whether it’s following Barbie’s journey towards self-discovery or witnessing Jason Statham’s heroic battle against ferocious sharks, these films offer entertainment for all.
