Paradox Interactive has announced that it will refund all physical pre-orders for the troubled RPG horror sequel, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. The game had been delayed several times, with the original 2020 release window proving to be too ambitious. The studio responsible for the game, Hardsuit Labs, was removed from the project in 2021, and there has been no word on the new developer or a definite release window. However, Paradox has teased a “big announcement” for the game in September, with new environmental screenshots hinting at ongoing development.

Content Changes and Refunds

In a blog post, Paradox Interactive acknowledged that it had been a long time since fans received a proper update on the development of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. The post revealed that all physical pre-orders, including the Collector’s Edition, would be “proactively” refunded due to changes in bonus content. The previously advertised items in the physical editions are no longer representative of the current game’s build. However, digital versions of the First Blood Edition, Unsanctioned Edition, and Blood Moon Edition can still be purchased, and Paradox is willing to offer refunds if the player desires. Customers will be contacted by DPI Merchandising GmbH via email regarding their refund, while digital refunds can be acquired by visiting the store’s support page. An FAQ page for the same also mentions that it cannot guarantee any refunds to customers residing in Russia due to current sanctions.

New Developer and Big Announcement

In addition to the refunds, Paradox Interactive has teased a “big announcement” for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 in September. While no specifics were given, new environmental screenshots were released to hint at ongoing development. The post also revealed that the new developer for the game would be announced in September, which has been a focus of fan speculation since Hardsuit Labs was removed from the project.

The troubled production of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 began with the firing of two of its top employees in late 2020. Months before that, a cinematic trailer for the game was released, showcasing vampiric abilities such as charm, cunning, and terror, as they prowled the streets of Seattle at night. The trailer also featured brief instances of gameplay, including the ability to summon bat swarms, teleportation across the map, and heightened agility that allowed players to scale walls with ease.
