Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, recently addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding a potential cage fight with Elon Musk. According to Zuckerberg, Musk is not serious about the idea and it is time to move on. The dispute between the two tech giants began after the launch of Meta’s Threads, a social media platform competing directly with Musk’s X platform. Meta’s Threads garnered 30 million users on its first day, intensifying the tension between Zuckerberg and Musk.
Taking to his Threads account, Zuckerberg expressed his opinion on the matter. He mentioned that he had offered a real date for the fight and even Dana White, the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), had offered to make it a legitimate competition for charity. However, Musk failed to confirm a date, claimed he needed surgery, and subsequently suggested a practice round in Zuckerberg’s backyard instead. Zuckerberg stated that if Musk ever becomes serious about setting up an official event, he knows how to reach him. Until then, Zuckerberg believes it is time to move on and focus on competing with individuals who take the sport seriously.
Elon Musk, on the other hand, claimed that the fight would be live-streamed on both X and Meta’s platforms. Additionally, he mentioned that the event would likely take place in Italy. To ensure the authenticity of the fight, Musk emphasized that it would not be managed by the UFC but rather by his and Zuckerberg’s foundations. He also confirmed that he had spoken to the Prime Minister of Italy and the Minister of Culture, who agreed on an epic location for the event. However, Zuckerberg discouraged netizens from buying into Musk’s statements, emphasizing that nothing had been agreed upon.
In his Threads post, Zuckerberg expressed his passion for the sport and his readiness to engage in the fight since the day Musk challenged him. He reiterated that he would only share the details of the fight when Musk agreed on an actual date. Zuckerberg clarified that he was not holding his breath and emphasized the importance of working with professional organizations such as the UFC or ONE to create a great card and highlight the elite athletes in the game.
Elon Musk responded to Zuckerberg’s post with a series of tweets. He offered to visit Zuckerberg’s house the following week to teach him a lesson on weight categories in fighting if Zuckerberg truly desired it. Alternatively, Musk suggested that they could consider the next week as a practice session and wait for the arena in Italy to be ready. It remains to be seen how this dispute will develop further.
