Lords of the Fallen, a reboot of the well-known souls-like game, is set to release on October 13th on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. Developed by Hexworks, the game is said to be a spiritual successor to the original game, with promises of an interconnected world that is five times larger than the first game. The game, which runs on Unreal Engine 5, has been renamed several times to avoid confusion with the 2014 version. The game’s trailer features a tarnished world and a player who must fight against all odds to rebuild lost hope and glory in the region.

Gameplay

Lords of the Fallen is a souls-like game that features strong RPG elements. The game begins with a character builder, followed by a class selection option that includes nine choices ranging from Knight, Rogue, and Fire Apprentice. The starting path can evolve into something that fits the player’s playstyle via weapon discovery and other leveling options.

The protagonist in the game is The Dark Crusader, who accepts an offer from the unnamed, gold-faced mighty ruler of Mornstead to thwart Adyr. Adyr’s darkness threatens to desolate the world, and The Dark Crusader must use an odd glove, presumably an artifact that grants special abilities, to fight against it. The game features colossal boss battles, including beasts and fiery warriors. Players use a blue-tinted lantern to travel intermittently between two worlds, Axiom, the realm of the living, and Umbral, the realm of the dead, both of which pose unique challenges.

The combat in the game is faster-paced and flashier than FromSoftware’s catalogue of games. The game comes with support for online co-op, but other heroes from different realms can invade and ruin a player’s day.

The game’s description on Steam states: “Fall in the world of the living, and rise again… in the world of the dead. You now have one final chance to return to your living state, as all manner of hellish creature descends upon you.” This statement is somewhat reminiscent of Demon’s Souls, where the player respawns in a spirit-like form with lower HP until they defeat a boss.

Lords of the Fallen is a highly anticipated souls-like game with a release date of October 13th on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. The game features strong RPG elements, colossal boss battles, and online co-op support. The game’s combat is faster-paced than FromSoftware’s games, with a level of heft to the weapons. The game is set in a tarnished world, and the player must fight against all odds to rebuild lost hope and glory in the region.
