Instagram’s parent company, Meta, has announced that the Channels feature is now available worldwide, allowing creators to broadcast messages to their followers. The feature was initially available to a select few creators and users before becoming widely available. Instagram tested the broadcast channels feature in February 2022, allowing creators to share text, video, and photo updates with their invited and subscribed followers through this feature.

Broadcast Channels Feature

Creators can send messages to their followers through broadcast channels, and followers can only react to content or vote in polls. Only creators can send messages in the broadcast channels, while followers can only respond to or vote in polls. Meta’s blog post on June 15 announced the global rollout of Broadcast Channels. Once a creator creates a channel, they can send messages and invite their followers. When individuals join the channel, they will receive notifications whenever the creator posts updates. However, all Instagram users will be able to view the content on the channel.

Using Broadcast Channels

Instagram creators who wish to create a broadcast channel on their Android or iOS device may do so by following these steps:

Step 1: Open your Instagram page and select the messenger on the top right side of the feed.

Step 2: Tap on the edit or write message icon in the top right corner.

Step 3: Choose the ‘Create broadcast channel’ option.

Step 4: Name your broadcast channel and choose your audience.

Step 5: You can choose the channel on your profile.

Step 6: Tap on Create broadcast channel at the end.

Followers’ Options

Followers can choose to leave the channel or mute notifications at any moment. The introduction of broadcast channels is beneficial to creators because it allows them to connect with their followers more directly. It also allows them to communicate with their followers more efficiently and effectively, resulting in a more engaged audience.
