H2O AI, a California-based company, has launched two fully open-source products, H2OGPT and LLM Studio, to help enterprises with AI system development. The products provide an open, transparent ecosystem of tooling that enables companies to build their own instruction-following chatbot applications similar to ChatGPT.

The Need for Open-Source Generative AI

As more companies look to adopt generative AI models for business use cases, they remain wary of the challenges associated with sending sensitive data to a centralized large language model (LLM) provider that serves a proprietary model behind an API. Many companies also have specific needs for model quality, cost, and desired behavior, which closed offerings fail to deliver. To address this, H2O AI has launched two open-source products that provide enterprises with a fine-tuning framework and enable them to build their own GPT.

LLM Studio

LLM Studio is a no-code development framework that provides enterprises with a fine-tuning framework. Users can choose from fully permissive, commercially usable code, data, and models and start building a GPT for their needs. With every click of a button, users can build their GPT and publish it on Hugging Face, which is open-source, or internally on a repo.

H2OGPT

H2OGPT is H2O’s own open-source LLM that is fine-tuned to be plugged into commercial offerings. Users can choose from a variety of open models and datasets, see response scores, flag issues, and adjust out length, among other things. It adds a much-needed layer of introspection and interpretability that allows users to ask “why” a certain answer is given.

H2O AI’s offerings come as many companies are looking for open-source generative AI models for business use cases. H2O AI’s open-source products provide enterprises with the tools they need to build their GPT and fine-tune it for their specific use case. With this significant contribution, all customers and communities will be able to partner with H2O AI to make open-source AI and data the most accurate and powerful LLMs in the world. While some vouch for the closed approach, H2O AI believes that democratization is a necessary force in this manner.
