Elon Musk has announced that he will continue tweeting his unfiltered thoughts despite the potential consequences to his businesses. Musk also revealed that he will devote more time to Tesla, but will remain active on Twitter. Linda Yaccarino, who has been named as Musk’s successor as Twitter CEO, is a respected media and advertising executive considered a visionary by some. Musk said that Yaccarino’s expertise in advertising will be crucial for Twitter, which is primarily an advertising business, while he will focus on building products.
Since taking over Twitter in late October, Musk has made several controversial moves, including firing most of its staff, readmitting banned accounts to the platform, suspending journalists, and charging for previously free services. These actions have made advertisers wary of associating their products with the platform. Musk has also allowed Donald Trump to return to Twitter, but the former US president has yet to restart using the platform, opting instead to post on his own social media site.
Musk to Focus on AI at Tesla
Musk has stated that he will focus on artificial intelligence (AI) back at Tesla, which already uses the technology for self-driving capabilities. He predicts that Tesla will have a ChatGPT moment, referring to the AI bots from startup OpenAI that have captured imaginations and provoked fears regarding powerful AI. Musk helped create OpenAI and invested $50 million in the startup at the outset, claiming that he came up with the name. Despite his stated positions on free speech and criticism of content moderation around the 2020 election, Twitter recently admitted to yielding to Turkish government pressure to take down content ahead of last weekend’s elections.
