Battlegrounds Mobile India, also known as BGMI, has made a comeback on iOS and Android platforms in India after almost a year-long ban. The mobile game was relaunched by developers Krafton on May 29, 2023, with some restrictions in place to control playtime. BGMI is now the focus of an esports tournament, hosted by Skyesports, an esports and gaming company. The Skyesports Champions Series will feature a BGMI tournament with a prize pool of Rs. 25 lakh. The tournament will start on June 9 and continue until June 18, with the games streaming on Skyesports’ YouTube channel. Competitive BGMI tournaments were put on hold when the game was banned in India in July 2022.

Skyesports CEO Shiva Nandy had stated in August 2022 that the BGMI ban was temporary and that the game would return. The relaunched version of BGMI includes daily time limits to address gaming addiction. The latest update includes a new map based on a tropical island resort, new in-game events, and updates to classic maps. Restricted playtimes will be based on player age, with minors limited to three hours a day and adults allowed up to six hours of playtime.

Krafton confirmed last month that the Indian government had given them permission to bring BGMI back to India, but for a three-month trial period. The game was banned last year in July due to concerns about data privacy and online security. The ban of BGMI on both the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store had a significant impact on the mobile esports community in the country.

Sean Hyunil Sohn, CEO of Krafton India, expressed gratitude to the Indian authorities for allowing the resumption of BGMI operations in India. He also thanked the Indian gaming community for their support and patience over the past few months. BGMI is now available for download on both iOS and Android platforms via the App Store and Google Play Store, respectively. However, staggered playability has been implemented, and users will be able to log in within 48 hours.

Esports tournaments have become increasingly popular in India in recent years, with BGMI being one of the most popular games in the country. The Skyesports Champions Series tournament promises to be a thrilling event for fans of the game, with a substantial prize pool up for grabs. The tournament will also provide a platform for Indian esports players to showcase their skills on a national level.

With daily time limits in place to control gaming addiction, a new map, and in-game updates, BGMI is poised to recapture its place as one of the most popular mobile games in India.
