SuperGaming, a Pune-based game developer, is taking the Indian gaming industry to new heights by collaborating with Apple and popular games streamer Techno Gamerz. The company’s latest game, Battle Stars, features a Mumbai-based game map and playable characters, and is available on iOS and Android.

Collaborating with Techno Gamerz and Apple

SuperGaming has collaborated with Techno Gamerz, a well-established YouTuber, for its game Battle Stars. The collaboration has given the game significant attention, along with being featured in Apple’s ‘Today at Apple’ event at the new Apple BKC store in Mumbai. The company is also working closely with Apple in India, which offers advice on how to engage users better and understand the nuances between different markets. Roby John, the co-founder and CEO of SuperGaming, believes that streaming and showcasing made-in-India games is not a question of if, but a question of when.

About Battle Stars

Battle Stars started out as Silly Wars, a mode within another SuperGaming game called Silly Royale. The game soon gained popularity, leading the team to turn it into a standalone game. The process took about a year, according to Roby. Building a scalable and smooth-flowing multiplayer online experience for Battle Stars relied on a combination of proven technology and some of the developer’s own expertise. The game runs on Unity, and also utilises the developer’s custom-built sandbox tech stack SuperPlatform, which powers many functions such as play data management, multiplayer matchmaking, and monetisation.

Challenges of Game and App Development in India

Game and app development in India is still in the relatively early stages, as compared to global markets. SuperGaming is among the early movers in the field, and Roby believes that there is still a strong preference for international games such as Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and Valorant. However, he believes that this makes it easier to sell audiences on the idea of an Indian shooter or Battle Royale game. On the other hand, the challenges of being in this field in India are significant. Roby states that there aren’t any large-scale formal training centres for gaming like engineering, medicine, or law. Gaming has yet to reach that level of acceptance, leaving a large talent pool without a school.

Success in the game development industry is usually a result of honing the craft of game-making for years. SuperGaming has cut its teeth on a host of games before finding success with MaskGun, Silly Royale, Pac-Man, and now, Battle Stars. The company’s collaboration with Techno Gamerz and Apple has given it a significant boost, and the Indian gaming industry is set to grow rapidly in the coming years. SuperGaming is putting India on the global gaming map, and the future looks bright for the company and the Indian gaming industry as a whole.
