The highly anticipated release of Gangs of Sherwood, a co-op PvE game inspired by the English folk hero Robin Hood, has left fans disappointed as the release date has been delayed by almost a month. This unique take on the classic story takes place in a gritty neo-medieval future, closer to the dark and foreboding world of Warhammer than the familiar Sherwood Forest filled with singing Merry Men and lush greenery.

From Sherwood to a Bleak Future

Gangs of Sherwood, much like Lies of P is to Pinocchio, gives players a fresh perspective on the iconic tale of Robin Hood. Rather than the traditional setting of Sherwood Forest, players are transported to a world of belching smoke, neon-tipped bows, armoured Dark Soulsian monstrosities, and powerful glowing fists. It’s a stark departure from the familiar depiction, but one that offers a unique and compelling experience.

The Taste of Co-op Gameplay

In an effort to give players a glimpse into the world of Gangs of Sherwood, developers Appeal Studios released a demo during Steam’s latest Next Fest. The demo allowed players to engage in third-person melee combat and experience thrilling multiplayer boss battles. They had the opportunity to choose from four characters – Robin Hood, Marian, Friar Tuck, or Little John – and experiment with the game’s combo-based attacks and abilities. This taste of the game’s mechanics left players hungry for more.

Just a week before the planned release date of November 2nd, Appeal Studios made a surprising announcement: Gangs of Sherwood would be delayed by four weeks. Citing “abundant feedback” gathered from players during the Next Fest demo, the developers acknowledged the need for improvements and fine-tuning.

In a statement, the developers expressed their commitment to incorporating the community’s feedback and enhancing certain aspects of the game. By granting themselves additional time, they aim to give Robin Hood and his merry men the opportunity to better prepare for their upcoming confrontation with the armies of the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Following the delay, Gangs of Sherwood is now set to release on November 30th for PC and consoles. This extra time not only allows the developers to address the concerns raised by players but also signifies their dedication to delivering the best possible gaming experience. The delay indicates that Appeal Studios is willing to prioritize quality over a rushed release, ensuring that players will have an immersive and polished gameplay experience.

Despite the disappointment caused by the delayed release, Gangs of Sherwood remains an eagerly awaited game among fans. The unique twist on the Robin Hood legend, combined with co-op gameplay and intense combat, promises an exciting adventure. By taking the time to listen to player feedback and make necessary improvements, Appeal Studios is showing its commitment to creating an exceptional gaming experience. November 30th may be a few weeks later than anticipated, but with this delay comes the hope of a more refined and immersive journey into the dark, futuristic world of Sherwood.
